The Golden Algae Eater (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri) is a popular freshwater aquarium fish known for its bright golden scales and algae-eating habits. Native to Southeast Asia, this species is valued for keeping aquariums clean by consuming algae from glass, plants, and decorations. Growing up to 10–12 inches in length, Golden Algae Eaters are active swimmers that require spacious tanks and careful selection of tankmates. With proper care, they can live for 8–10 years, making them a long-term addition to any aquarium.

🧪 Care Tips for Golden Algae Eater

• Tank Size: Minimum 40 gallons; larger tanks recommended as they grow.
• Water Parameters:
  • Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
  • pH: 6.5–7.5
  • Moderate water hardness.
• Diet: Primarily algae, but supplement with algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach), and occasional protein foods like bloodworms.
• Tank Setup: Provide rocks, driftwood, and hiding spots. They enjoy strong water flow similar to their natural river habitats.
• Tankmates: Best with medium to large peaceful fish. Avoid small species (they may be harassed) and slow-moving fish with long fins.
• Behavior: Juveniles are peaceful, but adults can become territorial. Keep one per tank unless the aquarium is very large.
