With proper care, they can live for 8–10 years, making them a long-term addition to any aquarium.
🧪 Care Tips for Golden Algae Eater
- Tank Size: Minimum 40 gallons; larger tanks recommended as they grow.
- Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
- pH: 6.5–7.5
- Moderate water hardness.
- Diet: Primarily algae, but supplement with algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach), and occasional protein foods like bloodworms.
- Tank Setup: Provide rocks, driftwood, and hiding spots. They enjoy strong water flow similar to their natural river habitats.
- Tankmates: Best with medium to large peaceful fish. Avoid small species (they may be harassed) and slow-moving fish with long fins.
- Behavior: Juveniles are peaceful, but adults can become territorial. Keep one per tank unless the aquarium is very large.
